My B.O.B

On this webpage, I will present my INCH bag. It is not yet complete, but I wanted to present something. The final version should be lighter. Note: This pack is not designed to get you from point A to B. It is simply a pack containing all the basic essentials needed to survive away from home in a relatively comfortable manner.

​Cutting tools:
​

​Belt knife - 

[1] Mora Heavy-duty Companion (Carbon).

-  The blade is 4 inches long.
-  The blade is 3.2mm thick.
-  The blade is made from carbon steel and hardened to around 58-60 HRC.
-  The blade is stick tang.
-  The blade has a scandi grind.
-  The blade has a drop point.
-  The knife has a plastic and rubber handle.
-  The knife comes with a plastic sheath.

Chopper - 

[2] Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe.

-  The axe head weighs 900 grams.
-  The handle is 19 inches long.
-  The axe head has a thin profile, making it effective to chopping and shaping.
-  The axe comes with a leather sheath with a snap, which I replaced.
-  I also purchased an axe collar for it separately.

Saw - 

[3] SILKY Zubat Professional pruning saw.

-  The blade length is 330mm.
-  The blade is curved.
-  The blade is made from SK-4 carbon steel and is chrome plated.
-  The blade has 7.5 teeth per 30mm.
-  The teeth are impulse hardened.
-  The blade is full tang.
-  The saw has a pistol-grip handle made from rubber.
-  The saw cuts on the pull stroke.
-  The saw comes with a good-quality hard plastic scabbard.

Multitool - 

[4] Victorinox Swiss Army Knife Huntsman.

-  The tools found on this model are: saw, scissors, pen blade, flat-head screwdriver, bottle opener, wire stripper, can opener, small flat-head screwdriver, main blade, reamer, corkscrew and hook.
-  It comes with a tooth pick and tweezers too.

 
 

Combustion:

Combustion devices - 

[1] Bayite 6 inch ferrocerium rod.

-  The rod is 6 inches long with a half inch diameter.
-  The rod does not come with a striker, so I paired it with a Friendly Swede mag bar striker.
-  The rod has a hard composition.
-  I wrapped the rod in plastic to protect it from oxidation and corrosion.


[2] BIC lighter.

-  The lighter is disposable. 
-  I carry a total of 4 lighters.
-  I carry 3 in ExotacFire sleeves.

[3] Flint & Steel.

​-  I carry an ESEE striker, a piece of my broken file and two metal tins.
-  Tin 1 is for charring materials.
-  Tin 2 holds my broken file, cotton, jute, and 2 small shards of flint.

​-  I carry the ESEE striker separately to avoid damaging the 90-degree edge.


Ignitable material - 

[4] Procamptek Fire Plugs 50 pack.

-  The fire plugs are wax-fused.
-  Each fire plug has a 4 minute burn time.
-  Fire plugs can be ignited by a flame, hot sparks or an ember.



Container:

​[1, 2] Keith Titanium Military Canteen Set.

-  This set comes with a bottle, cup, lid and a pouch.
-  The containers and lids are made from Titanium. 
-  The bottle has a capacity of 1100ml.
-  The cup has a capacity of 700ml.

​Cordage:
​

​I carry two grades of paracord: 550 and micro cord. I recommend referring to [IV] CORDAGE chapter for more information.

Elemental cover - 

[1] Aqua Quest Defender Heavy-duty Tarp.

-  The tarp is made from 70-denier nylon fabric.
-  The tarp is dual coated (TPU & DWR).
-  The tarp has a waterproof rating of 20,000mm.
-  The tarp has webbing loops.
-  The tarp's seam is sealed.
-  The tarp is 3x3m and weighs around 1.5kg.

Groundsheet - 

[2] Tyvek.

-  Tyvek is made from HDPE.
-  Tyvek is lightweight and flexible.
-  Tyvek is extremely durable.
-  Water droplets will not penetrate Tyvek, though gases will pass through.


Blanket - 

[3] Woolly Mammoth Woolen Company Hunter Green wool camping blanket.
​
-  The wool blanket is made from merino wool.
-  It has an 80/20 blend (80% wool, 10% polyester, 5% nylon and 5% other fibers).
-  Its dimensions are 66 x 90 inches and weighs around 1.8kg.
-  The edges are double stitched.


Sleeping bag - 
​
[4] Naturehike down sleeping bag.

-  This sleeping bag is simply a place holder. I still need to decide on a sleeping bag.

Sleeping mat - 

[5] Savotta FDF sleeping pad.

-  The mat is made from 210 Polyamide (PU coated) and 600D polyester (rubberized).
-  It is a closed-cell foam pad.
-  The dimensions when fully open are 100 x 210cm.
-  The mat weighs around 960g.

​Backpack - 

[1] Savotta Jaakari XL Rucksack.

-  The pack's shell is made from 1000 denier cordura and is PUR coated.
-  The pack uses ITW Nexus buckles and zippers.
-  This is an external frame pack.
-  The frame is made from DUR aluminum.
-  The pack has a capacity of 80-100L and weighs around 3.7kg (empty).

Raincover - 

[2] Tashev Waterproof Rucksack rain cover.

-  The cover is made from ripstop nylon fabric.
-  The cover has a waterproof rating of 2000mm.
-  It will fit a backpack with a capacity of 100-120L.

-  The shovel is made from stainless steel.
-  The shovel folds.
-  The shovel comes with a PVC pouch.
-  The shovel weighs 125g when inside the pouch.

Portable wood stove - 

[1, 2] Bushcraft Essentials Bushbox LF Titanium.

​I carry a Bushcraft Essentials titanium folding wood stove that comes in a black pouch.

[1] Viper V-Pouch.

-  The pouch is made from 600 denier Cordura.
-  The pouch has a durable and water resistant construction.
-  The pouch has multiple compartments. 
-  The pouch weighs 215g.

[2] Belt pouch contents:

-  SAK Huntsman.
-  Small ferro rod.
-  Striker.
-  BIC lighter.
-  Cordage.
-  Fire strip roll in a tin.
-  A small wazoo sharpening stone in a leather pouch.

I carry 6 titanium tent stakes to help set up my tarp.

I carry spare glasses in a hard plastic case.

​Sharpening stones and strop - 

-  A coarse FARRAR & TANNER stone made from silicone carbide.
-  A medium-grit Fallkniven DC4 stone made from synthetic sapphires.
-  A fine-grit Spyderco stone made from synthetic sapphires.
-  A super-fine-grit surgical black Arkansas stone made from novaculite.
-  A Leather strop with green compound.

​Axe stone - 

[1, 2] Gransdors Bruk Sweden grinding stone.

I carry an axe stone solely for my axe. It has a coarse 180-grit side and a fine 600-grit side.

​Lubricants - 

​[1] Beeswax.

-  This beeswax is made from beeswax and boiled linseed oil.
-  I carry it in an airtight metal container.
-  It can be applied to wood, leather and steel.

[2] Nano-Oil.

-  Nano-Oil comes in a convenient applicator.
-  It is solely for my multitool joints.
​

​FAK - 

[1 , 2] First Aid Kit.
​
Items include:

-  Plasters/Band-aids.
-  Various bandages.
-  Alcohol and Iodine prep pads.
-  Paracetamol.
-  Anti-diarrhea pills.
-  Antiseptic cream.
-  Cotton swabs.
-  Tourniquet.
-  Potassium iodide.

​I still need to add some buprofen/Advil and Bonjela to the kit.

[3] H&S Stainless steel nail clippers.

​Tooth brush -

I carry a small sheet of Tyvek as a groundsheet for kneeling when building a fire.
